Our Kindergarten Social Night was a great success! More than 30 families stopped by, and kids and parents were all getting to know one another. There was a lot of interest in continued opportunities for families to connect outside of school. Raun, the parent who coordinated last night's event, asked for suggestions about where/what else we could do to keep up the momentum of our community buliding. There were some great ideas! If you have suggestions, please pass them on to us or post it in the comments for everyone to see. Thank you to all who were able to stop by, and thanks again to Raun and Roasted Pear. The owner, Craig, and manager, Stephanie, went beyond their generous offer of one free kids' meal for each adult meal purchased, and even provided snacks and free beverages! Due to the great turnout, our servers, Rusty and Jamae, had their hands full! We appreciate all they did and thank you for your understanding. We are energized by the excitement of our students and families as we see the bonds within our community strengthen. Not only is this going to be a great year, but we can see that the fun and friendships will continue well beyond this school year. If you took pictures last night and would like to share them on our site, please email them to Jody Levy at [email protected].

Kindergarten Parent Connection opportunity! Please visit the Woodland Media Center between 8:30 and 9:30 AM on Tuesday, September 22. Childcare is available. This is a casual gathering in order for our kindergarten parents to get to know one another better.
Kindergarten Mixer 9/28/15 4:15-7:30 PM (at Roasted Pear) Scroll down to our earlier post about this event to see the flyer. The Minnesota Legislature voted to provide Kindergarten students with a FREE breakfast, regardless of ability to pay. With all kindergarten students having the option of free breakfast, we have decided (with the help of our wonderful kitchen staff) to modify the breakfast routine and eat with our classes in our rooms each day instead of sending them to the cafeteria. This gives us another great opportunity to build community, practice social skills and table manners. With every meal, students will have a choice of fruit and calcium fortified apple or orange juice. There will be at least 2 choices of whole grain cereals which come with either string cheese or yogurt, depending on the day. Each day we will offer an alternative to cereal. Choices will include a Frudel (fruit filled whole grain bread), Whole Grain Waffle, Whole Grain Cinnamon Roll, Whole Grain Pretzel Cheese Roll, etc. All meals include a milk. Please be aware that in order to qualify for a full FREE breakfast, a student must take a minimum of 3 items. One of the items must be either a fruit or juice. If your child has a food allergy, we need to know. We care about your child and want to help keep them safe. Federal regulations require that we have a parent/guardian have a licensed physician fill out a Special Diet Statement found on District 279 website at: http://www.district279.org/images/Dept/FoodandNutrition/Documents/special-diet-form.pdf and turn in to the School Nutrition Manager. We feel very strongly that a healthy breakfast is the best way to start the day! According to Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry & C & S Wholesale Grocers report, teachers credit breakfast with increased concentration (95%), better academic performance (89%) and better behavior in the classroom (73%). Health is also a major factor, with four out of five teachers telling researchers breakfast prevents headaches and stomachaches. (http://join.nokidhungry.org/site/DocServer/2012-teacher-report-final.pdf?docID=8901) The Minnesota Legislature voted to provide Kindergarten students with a FREE breakfast, regardless of ability to pay. However, lunch may not be free for every student. To see if you qualify, please go to this District 279 web address using Google Chrome or Firefox browser at: https://www.osseo.k12.mn.us/fma/ and fill out the FREE/REDUCED application form. We will have computers set up at the front of the building at Open House. Please plan to attend our open house Wednesday evening, between 5:30-7:00. You can meet your child's teacher, confirm transportation information, and your child can see his or her classroom!
We will have lots of information for parents and guardians, including information about the new way we will offer breakfast (free) to all of our kindergarten students! Thanks to the efforts of Woodland parent, Raun Bullard, we are excited to share an invitation to our first Kindergarten Mixer! Please click HERE for a link to the flyer. We hope to see you there!
