Hello families,
Woodland Elementary is participating in the 8th Annual Neighborhood Forest program, whose aim is to provide free trees for kids to plant on Earth Day! We are so excited to give away free trees!!! If you would like your child to receive a tree, please fill out the online registration form by April 15th and receive a free tamarack tree (6-12 inches in size) during Earth Week (April 22-28). Planting instructions and species information will be emailed to you a few days prior to the trees arriving. Register (on a laptop, tablet or desktop computer) to receive a free tamarack tree for Earth Day to plant with your child: http://www.neighborhoodforest.org/search-for-school/ Thank you for your support and participation! For more information about this program, please visit www.neighborhoodforest.org. Here is a video you can watch to learn more about the program too! https://youtu.be/ta359qUBsJs MN Reading & Math Corp Tutors Needed
Would you love to help children grow their reading or math skills, succeed in school and get extra support? If your answer is yes, you can be trained to serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps! Whether you want to explore an educational career, re-enter the workforce, or give back to your community, you can succeed as a tutor. Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps have provided direct services to over 35,000 children in more than 700 schools across the state. See the attached document for details on how you can become a Minnesota Reading or Math Corps Tutor! At Woodland, we've been given 4 reading positions and 2 math for the 2017-2018 school year. It is going to be very important for us to fill these positions because of the great impact they have on our kids. Our incredible tutors are providing one on one interventions that are moving our kids to grade level reading skills. They have a direct impact on the academic lives of students every day. What more could we ask for out of a partner program? Tomorrow (Tuesday), we will welcome our kindergarten class of 2017-18 to Woodland with a brief orientation. The school doors will open at 5:00 PM, and the presentation will begin at 5:30. Please bring your kindergartner, as he/she will have a chance to see a kindergarten classroom and a school bus! This is a great chance to learn more about kindergarten at Woodland Elementary. If you have a child starting kindergarten in the fall, we hope to see you there!
There are many ways to be involved on February 13th. You can sign up to greet scholars as they arrive, send them off for the day, have lunch with your child, and spend time in their classroom.
There will also be large group gatherings that you can attend. Please consider visiting your child's classroom or even just stopping in for lunch on February 13th. (Kindergarteners eat lunch at 12:30 PM.) You can visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0f4fa4a622a20-african to select a time slot for your visit. Dear Kindergarten Families,
It’s time to add to our Kindergarten homework! This sheet is to inform you about our homework and weekly expectations. Mondays: Word Bird Word Homework (the strip of words in the envelope) DUE FRIDAY-1 date & initial per week required Tuesdays: Math Homework (on blue paper) DUE WEDNESDAY Wednesdays: Reading Comprehension Homework (read the story with your child and answer questions) DUE THURSDAY—signature required Thursdays: Math Homework (on blue paper) DUE FRIDAY Other Important Information: Reading Calendars are due at the end of each month-the calendar must be signed, and the child must read for at least 300 minutes to be eligible for the reward. Thank you all so much for your help and support! The Kindergarten Teachers Hello Families!

Thanks for all you do, and have a wonderful weekend! Thanks to all the kindergarten families who joined us at our Kindergarten social event last night! We served over 200 hot dog baskets, and fun was had by all! We sincerely hope you had a great time and were able to meet some of your children's friends and families! As parents of kindergartners, many of you are brand-new to our Woodland community! Our building, kindergarten team and PTO all strive to make all families feel welcome at Woodland. As a result, we have a jackpot of events for you to choose from to get out and meet (or re-connect with) other kindergarten families and Woodland staff!
Today is our All-School BBQ. This event occurs during the school day, but parents and siblings are invited to attend. Kindergarten will eat at 12:15 (NOTE: THIS IS EARLIER THAN OUR REGULAR TIME!) Family members who are joining their children will meet them near the cafeteria doors to get lunch. There are some tables set up in the cafeteria, but many families choose to bring a blanket and eat outside when the weather is nice. Today, our lunch time will end at 12:50. On Tuesday, September 20, from 5:30-7:00 PM, the Kindergarten team is hosting "Chillin' and Grillin' with Kindergarten", a community building event for our kindergarten students and their families. If you have not turned in your RSVP yet, please email Jody Levy at [email protected] to request the number of all-beef hot dog baskets you and your family will need BY NOON on SATURDAY. Questions can be directed to your child's classroom teacher. Thanks, and we hope to see you there! Wednesday, September 21 is Woodland's first Community Dinner! A flyer went home (and is available here) that you can print an bring along to Buffalo Wild Wings in Champlin. This event is sponsored by our PTO, and if you bring the flyer/coupon, a percentage of your bill will be given back to the Woodland PTO. Thank you for your commitment to our school-we are so excited to get to know all of you better this year! |
